Chapter Fifteen
I rolled over onto my side and propped my head on my arm. Ryan was lying next to me on his back, he was staring at the ceiling with a huge grin on his face. For a moment, I watched his nostrils flare open and closed with every breath. He seemed so calm and peaceful, but his breathing was rapid. That was likely my fault.
âYou know,â I said after catching my own breath. âThis trying thing isnât so bad.â
âI could get used to it.â He smiled. He turned to face me, the lazy grin still smeared across his face. âWhat time is your fitting?â
âIn an hour,â I frowned. âOr Iâd be up for round three.â
âFour if you count last night,â he smirked.
I slipped out from under the covers and smiled down at him. âIâm having a hard time keep track.â
He gazed at my naked body standing next to him for a moment and then smiled.
âAfter,â he said.
âDefinitely.â
I rushed through my shower and threw on a pair of jeans, boots and a sweater. My hair still held curls from the day before, so I ran my fingers through them to liven them back up and spritzed on dry shampoo. I slathered lotion on my face and dabbed on primer, concealer, and a little foundation and blush. Barely coating my lashes, I ran the mascara over them and applied highlighter to my cheek and brow bones. Thatâs as good as itâs getting today, I decided and turned off the bathroom light.
âYou have twenty minutes to drive to Green Hills,â Ryan announced. He handed me my coffee in a traveler mug and let me know my car was in the driveway, warmed up and ready to go.
âThank you, I love you, youâre the best,â I said with a smile and kissed his cheek. I grabbed my purse off the counter and turned to go.
âOh, babe,â he called after me.
âYeah?â I stopped.
âI love you too.â He smiled and blew me a kiss.
âLetâs hope your sperm love me more,â I joked and pulled the door shut behind me.
It had been almost six weeks since Iâd tossed my birth control and aside from the week Iâd spent in Kansas City and Atlanta, weâd been religiously trying. Monday through Friday, morning and night. On the weekends, it was morning, noon and night. My vagina was ready for an afternoon off.
On the way to the boutique, I called Rachel one last time to invite her along. I hadnât spoken to her since the Atlanta trip, at least not in person or on the phone. If I called, sheâd ignore the call and send a text that she was busy, and weâd catch up later. At Thanksgiving, sheâd only showed up at the Sams for dinner and then left before they sliced the pie. Ryan had tried to reassure me she was likely just busy with work. He mentioned some guy she was dating, someone Iâd never heard her even mention.
âHey, Rachel. Itâs me, Janna, your long-lost best friend and soon to be sister-in-law, trying one last time to get you to come to my dress fitting.
